MIT 2022 Kuaotunu - Discovery

I was surprised to hear that our very first activity is role play. (Talk about plucking you out of your comfort zone). We had to choose a cue card resembling a character. I chose to be the farmer whose kids got excluded at school as his children do not smell so good. It was a good laugh. The setting was we were the parents of students from Kuaotunu Area School and we were meeting to discuss the current school report due to go to the ministry the next day. We had to read the statements and make comments or ask clarifying questions to the principal. It took me a while to realise that the statements came from our Moonshot proposals.

Through this activity, I learned that the correct words in our proposal are super important. Using the wrong words can offend somebody unintentionally or confuse the reader as to what exactly the challenge is. This was my original statement.

The way the reader could interpret is:  Why was the work delivered on the wrong level if they just came out of university, should the parents be concerned that their children are not taught at the right level? How long is a long time? etc.

Therefore my takeaway from the lesson was that our proposal should be brief but accurate.
